This eagerly awaited series from JTBC signaled the return to television of a popular actor, who also appears in another 2025 hit. It’s no shock that the celebrated star has two popular and critically acclaimed shows this year. In this production, he plays a lead role as an ex-boxer who joins the police force. The show combines an entertaining blend of action, humor, and sincere emotional beats. Viewers will also see a well-known actress portraying a psychologist, which sets the stage for a compelling and palpable connection between the two protagonists.

Number 11: The Haunted Palace
Supernatural and enigmatic fantasy aspects grabbed audience interest in this historical romance fantasy, which featured perilous danger that unfolded the secret of a malevolent force inside the royal court. This evil presence appears to be focusing its attacks on members of the royal family. The cast includes Yuk Sungjae, Bona, and Kim Ji-hoon. The female protagonist is the descendant of a renowned shaman, though she refuses to follow in her footsteps. Events take a dramatic shift when the man she loves, a high-ranking official, falls under the control of a possessive spirit. She must then venture into the palace to rescue him while confronting a potent and spiteful ghost.

Number 10: Love Scout
Debuting in early 2025, this series features Han Ji-min and Eom Jun-hong. It charts the romantic relationship between our female lead, the chief executive of a recruitment firm, and her endearing personal assistant, who is also a single dad. While he manages every aspect of her professional life, their temperaments are polar opposites. Our female lead, though dedicated, holds a high-powered corporate role. She might discover there’s more to living as they navigate their professional relationship together. The lead couple exhibited fashionable and sizzling on-screen dynamics, offering a novel perspective on office romance.

Number 9: The Queen Who Crowns
This narrative zeroes in on a female lead from a powerful clan, Queen Wong, played by Cha Joo-young. The plot develops as she weds into the monarchy and assists her spouse in ascending the throne, only for him to later bring numerous consorts into the palace, break her faith, scheme, and attempt to dominate her family to cement his own authority, ultimately deceiving her. A perilous scheme is eventually uncovered as the characters form bonds and become closer. It stars Ye Ji-won and Joo Boa.

Number 7: Nine Puzzles
Suspense, enigma, and criminal investigation await in this thriller, where a teenage girl loses a dear uncle and becomes the only person who saw the events related to his demise. Instead of being helped, she becomes the prime suspect. When the detective in charge is sure she is the murderer, she has no memory of the incident but remains inexplicably linked to the case even ten years later, by which time she has built a career as a criminal profiler. She soon finds herself working alongside that very same detective who once believed her to be guilty. As old doubts emerge and hints about her history start to surface, a malevolent and horrifying reality comes to light.

Number 6: Our Unwritten Soul
This slice-of-life romance features Park Bo-young in a dual part, portraying twin sisters. Park Hoon also plays a central role in this innovative and well-received series. The twin siblings live vastly separate lives and at times feel distant from one another, yet they maintain a deep sisterly connection. One sister enjoys a relaxed existence in her provincial home, while the other has built a life in Seoul but is buckling under career pressures. They make a decision to swap places and experience each other’s worlds. But can they successfully deceive those around them, or will they be quickly discovered? While their lifestyles were completely opposite, those closest to them might be puzzled by their sudden change in behavior.

Number 5: Resident Playbook
This lighthearted comedic medical show also gently focused on everyday life, following a group of first-year obstetrics and gynecology residents. Featuring Go Youn-jung, Shin Si-ah, and Kongdeuk, it mixed medical professional duties with personal experiences. While the situations could be intense, the series also touched upon themes related to declining birth rates, particularly within a gynecology department. It further wove together the personal journeys of its main cast, charting their development and evolution, which audiences appreciated following.

Number 4: Weak Hero Class 2
Among the most awaited returns in 2025 was this series’ second season. The initial run received widespread praise. The protagonist, who seems like an ordinary pupil, gained a reputation for defending himself against tormentors. He also forged powerful alliances, experienced disloyalty, and even sought justice for a best friend. He now moves to a different school where he again finds himself a victim. However, he will form friendships with those who resist and challenge other violent student groups. The main characters are pushed to their absolute limits, forcing them to fight for their safety. The youth action series stars Park Ji-hoon, Ryeoun, and Hong Kyung.

Number 3: Study Group
Here we have another series centered on students, featuring a main character gifted in combat. This story follows a young man who struggles academically but is exceptionally talented in fighting. He creates a study group with the goal of university admission, using his physical skills to shield his peers from school violence. A provisional teacher, who also aims to create positive change within the institution, arrives and seeks to implement his own strategies. Along with suspense, viewers can expect plenty of action and sporadic light-hearted comedy. Hong Man-hee and Han Ji-eun play the leading roles.

Number 2: Trauma Code: Heroes on Call
This program introduces us to our male lead, Dr. Bake, portrayed by Joo Ji-hoon. It delivers high-stakes medical excitement with riveting cases tackled by a skilled team. It also showcased some unconventional approaches, as the hospital’s dire financial state appears to be stretched to its limits when it comes to patient survival for our emergency response team, alongside the coordinated efforts of experts from various fields that are essential in critical situations. The cast also includes Chu Young-woo and Ha-yang.

Number 1: When Life Gives You Tangerines
This poignant period romance focuses on life and a love that spans decades. The series stars Aoo and Park Bo-gum in the main roles during their youth, and Moon Uri and Park Jun as the older versions of the characters. This narrative, which jumps forward in time, centers on the profound connection between the central couple, their intimate relationship, shared life, and the difficulties they face. Audiences were enchanted by the romance set on Juju Island. Its success also launched the show into international recognition, and it was widely praised for its gentle portrayal of a committed family, everyday life, and that deeply moving love story.
